A walk-in closet in Toronto typically costs $2,500 to $8,000 installed for a standard room, $8,000 to $15,000 with an island and premium finishes, and $15,000 or more for a full dressing room. Those are the figures we quote every week, and this guide explains what sits behind them so you can read any quote, ours or someone else’s, and know what you are paying for.

There is no per-closet price in this trade, because no two closets are the same size. What there is, is a price per linear foot of cabinetry, and that is the number that decides most of the quote. If you want the same breakdown for every kind of closet, see our custom closet cost guide.

TierInstalled priceWhat it usually means
Standard walk-in (roughly 6×8 to 8×8 feet)$2,500 – $8,000Hanging on two or three walls at two levels, adjustable shelving, a drawer bank and shoe storage
Premium walk-in (a larger room, or clear floor in the middle)$8,000 – $15,000An island, luxury finishes, integrated lighting and more drawers
Dressing room (large, boutique-style)$15,000 and upExtensive custom work: full-height cabinetry, glass fronts, display bays and an island
Installed prices, 2026, in quality materials. Design, manufacturing, delivery and installation are included.

Where your closet lands inside a range depends on the cabinetry you build into it, not on the size of the floor. A six-by-eight room with hanging on one wall costs less than a five-foot reach-in built out with drawers, fronts and lighting.

What is included in the price

A Closet Form quote is one figure for the finished closet, not for the cabinets alone. It covers:

  • The in-home design visit. Thirty to forty-five minutes, laser measurements of the real opening and a conversation about what you own. No charge and no obligation.
  • A 3D drawing and an itemised price. You see the closet in your own room before anything is cut, with each component priced separately, so if the number is over budget we take things out of the drawing in front of you.
  • Manufacturing in our own GTA shop. Cut to your measurements, not ordered from a catalogue of fixed sizes.
  • Delivery and installation. Done by our own crew, in one day for most closets, with the packaging taken away.
  • A seven-year warranty on the carcass, shelving, hanging systems and installation.

Some quotes price the cabinetry and add delivery and installation afterwards, which can be several hundred dollars on a closet. When you compare, compare the total.

What moves the price

Linear feet of cabinetry

The running length of cabinetry, and how many levels it is built out to, is the main driver. As a rough planning figure, a straightforward hanging-and-shelving run works out around $175 to $350 per linear foot installed. A run with a drawer bank, fronts and accessories is $350 to $600. We quote the actual figure from your measurements.

Material and finish

Melamine in a wood or matte finish is the standard and covers most of the ranges in this guide. Textured and high-gloss panels add roughly fifteen to twenty-five per cent. Solid hardwood and veneer are a different tier of price. If you are weighing options, our materials and hardware page shows the finishes side by side.

Drawers

Drawers are the most expensive component per foot, and the one that changes a closet most. A four-drawer bank on soft-close undermount runners is typically $600 to $1,200 depending on width and front. Fewer, deeper drawers can cost less than many shallow ones.

Doors and drawer fronts

An open system with no fronts is the least expensive way to build. Adding slab or shaker fronts, glass or mirror raises the figure across the whole unit, because every opening gets one.

Accessories

Valet rods, pull-down rails, tie and belt racks and jewellery inserts are each modest on their own and add up together. See the walk-in closet accessories we build in, and the add-ons that carry a published price:

Add-onTypical price
Four-drawer bank, soft-close undermount runners$600 – $1,200
LED lighting, depending on run length and switch or sensor$200 – $600
Island (needs 36 inches of clear floor on every side)From about $2,500

The island, if the room takes one

An island is the largest single line on most walk-in quotes. It needs thirty-six inches of clear floor on every side, and in a room that cannot give it that clearance we will tell you so rather than draw one in. Our guide to luxury walk-in closet features shows what is worth the upgrade.

What the room itself does

Ceilings out of level, walls out of square, a bulkhead across the top or a radiator in the run all mean scribing and filler work. It is normal, it is in the quote, and it is part of why made-to-measure fits where a boxed system cannot.

Is a custom walk-in worth it?

For most homes we build in, yes. A custom closet fits your exact space, goes to the ceiling and follows walls that are not straight. A modular system can be the sensible spend in a rental or a house you are selling within a year or two, and we will say so. We compare the two honestly in custom closet vs IKEA in Toronto.

How to compare quotes

  • Ask for the linear feet and the number of drawers. Two quotes for “a walk-in closet” are not comparable. Two quotes for fourteen linear feet with eight drawers are.
  • Check what the price includes. Design, manufacture, delivery, installation and warranty should all be inside the figure.
  • Ask who makes it and who fits it. Made locally or ordered from a catalogue, installed by employees or by a subcontracted crew.
  • Read the warranty before the price. What does it cover: the structure, the hardware, the finish? And for how long?
