What a Custom Closet Costs in Toronto
Real ranges for every closet type, what is inside the figure, and the seven things that actually change it.
The short answer
$1,200 to $8,000 for most closets
Most custom closets in Toronto land between $1,200 and $8,000 installed. A reach-in starts around $1,200, a typical walk-in runs $2,500 to $8,000, and a floor-to-ceiling built-in wardrobe $3,000 to $8,000. Larger dressing rooms with islands and premium finishes go past $15,000.
There is no per-closet price in this trade because no two closets are the same size, and any company quoting one over the phone is quoting a system they have already decided to sell you. What there is, is a per-foot cost that moves inside a fairly narrow band, and a short list of decisions that move it.
The single biggest factor is linear feet of cabinetry — how much wall the unit covers — not the floor area of the room. A six-by-eight walk-in with hanging on one wall costs less than a five-foot reach-in built out on three levels with a drawer bank. Everything else on this page is the list of things that move the number after that.

- You see the unit in your own room before anything is cut, with every component priced separately. If the number is over what you wanted, we take things out of the drawing in front of you rather than sending a revised total a week later.
- Manufacturing in our own GTA shop
- Cut to your measurements on our own machines, not ordered in from a catalogue of fixed sizes. Because we are independent rather than a franchise, there is no franchise royalty inside the price — which is most of why our figures sit below the national brands.
- Delivery and installation
- Delivered and installed by our own crew, in one day for most closets. No separate delivery charge, no installation charge added at the end, and the packaging leaves with us.
- The warranty
- A seven-year warranty on the carcass, shelving, hanging systems and installation. It is included in the figure rather than sold on top of it.

What moves the price
Seven things that change the number
In roughly the order they matter. The first one accounts for more of the difference between two quotes than the other six together.
- Linear feet — the main one
- The running length of cabinetry, and how many levels it is built out to. Doubling the hanging on one bay adds more to the price than adding two feet of width, because it is more material and more labour in the same span.
- Material and finish
- Melamine in a wood or matte finish is the standard and covers most of the ranges here. Textured and high-gloss panels add roughly fifteen to twenty-five per cent. Solid hardwood and veneer are a different tier again and start where the top of the built-in range ends.
- Drawers
- The most expensive component per foot, and the one that changes a closet most. A four-drawer bank on soft-close undermount runners is typically $600 to $1,200 depending on width and front. Fewer, deeper drawers cost less than more shallow ones.
- Doors and drawer fronts
- An open system with no fronts is the least expensive way to build. Adding slab or shaker fronts, glass, or mirror raises the figure across the whole unit rather than in one place, because every opening gets one.
- Accessories
- Valet rods, pull-down rails, tie and belt racks, hampers, jewellery inserts and shoe fences are each modest on their own and add up quickly together. LED lighting is typically $200 to $600 for a closet depending on run length and whether it is switched or sensor-triggered.
- The island, if the room takes one
- An island starts around $2,500 and needs thirty-six inches of clear floor on every side. It is the largest single line on most walk-in quotes, and in a room that cannot give it that clearance we will tell you it does not fit rather than build a narrower one.
- What the room itself does
- Ceilings out of level, walls out of square, a bulkhead across the top or a radiator in the run all mean scribing and filler work. It is normal, it is in the quote, and it is a real part of why a made-to-measure unit costs more than a modular one.

Comparing quotes
Four questions that make two quotes comparable
- Get the linear feet on the quote
- Ask every company for the running feet of cabinetry and the number of drawers. Two quotes for 'a walk-in closet' are not comparable; two quotes for fourteen linear feet with eight drawers are. This one question does more than any other to make quotes line up.
- Check what the price includes
- Ours includes design, manufacture, delivery, installation and the warranty. Some quotes price the cabinetry and add delivery and installation afterwards, which can be several hundred dollars on a closet and is easy to miss on the first page.
- Ask who makes it and who fits it
- Manufactured locally or ordered from a catalogue, and installed by employees or by a subcontracted crew. Neither answer is wrong, but they explain price differences that otherwise look inexplicable.
- Read the warranty before the price
- Covering what, exactly — the structure, the hardware, the finish? Seven years on the carcass and one year on the runners is a different product from one that covers both, and the difference shows up in year six, not year one.

As a rough planning figure, a straightforward hanging-and-shelving run works out around $175 to $350 per linear foot installed, and a run with a drawer bank, fronts and accessories $350 to $600. We quote the actual unit rather than a per-foot rate, but it is a useful number for sanity-checking any quote you are given.
Yes, and it is the more useful way round. Tell us the number on the design visit and we will draw to it, then show you what comes out and what it costs to put each thing back. That conversation happens at your kitchen table rather than by email a week later.
A deposit is taken when you approve the drawings and manufacturing starts. The balance is due on completion of the installation, not before it — you pay the rest once the closet is in and you have looked at it.
Mostly because we are independent. A franchise pays a royalty on every job and a share of national advertising, and both are inside the price you are quoted. We manufacture in our own GTA shop and sell direct, which typically puts us twenty to thirty per cent below the chains for comparable materials.
Sometimes, genuinely. In a rental, a spare room, or a house you are selling within a year or two, a modular system is the sensible spend and we will say so. What it cannot do is reach your ceiling, follow a wall that is out of square, or put a drawer where the catalogue has not already got one.
