TFL melamine sample panels leaning against a wall — pale oak, cream, natural oak, grey woodgrain, dark walnut and matte black, in daylight
Materials & hardware

What your closet is actually made of.

94 TFL melamine finishes across three ranges, over a high-density engineered core, with Blum and Hettich hardware inside. Every one of them is photographed below — and your designer brings the samples to the house.

The material

TFL melamine, and why a closet is built in it.

Thermally fused laminate — a decorative paper fused to a high-density engineered panel under heat and pressure, so the finish is part of the board rather than a skin glued onto it. That is the difference that matters day to day: a painted door chips at the edge and a veneer lifts at the corner, but a TFL face cannot peel off a panel because it was never a separate layer to begin with.

It is also the finish that survives being a closet. Hands on the same drawer front twice a day, hangers dragged along a shelf, a vacuum against a toe kick, and a garage cabinet that takes a bicycle pedal now and then — melamine wipes clean and holds its colour through all of it, which is why it is the standard for cabinetry in this country rather than a compromise on one.

The names and codes below are the manufacturer’s own, not ours. Point at one in your living room and that code is what gets ordered, cut and fitted — nothing is translated into a house name along the way.

Colours

Every finish we build in

Filter by range to see one drawer of the sample box at a time, lightest first. Every one of these is available on doors, drawer fronts, shelving and carcass, so a unit can be one finish throughout or two — pale inside, dark outside, or the other way round.

On screenEvery screen renders these differently, and a photograph flattens a texture you can feel with your hand. Treat the chart as a shortlist. The physical sample, held up in your own room in your own light, is the decision.

The three ranges

Colour is only half of the choice

The same brown is a different thing printed flat, pressed with the grain, or polished to a mirror — and across a wall of doors they look nothing alike. This is the part a photograph cannot make for you, which is why the sample box comes to the house.

  • Linear Woodgrains & Solids

    40 finishes

A clean, straight grain modelled on quarter-cut veneer, and flat solid colours in the same family. It is the range most closets are built in: quiet enough to disappear into a bedroom, hard-wearing enough for a garage, and the widest choice of the three.

  • Textured Woodgrains

    20 finishes

The same kind of print, but with the grain pressed into the panel so it lines up with what you are looking at — run your hand across it and you feel the pores. It is the range that sells itself out of the sample box, and the one to choose where a unit is meant to read as furniture rather than as cabinetry.

  • High Gloss & Ultra-Matte

    34 finishes

Two opposite surfaces from the same family. High gloss throws light around a room and makes a small closet feel larger; ultra-matte absorbs it completely, resists fingerprints, and is the one to pick for a handleless front that gets pushed rather than pulled.

Construction

What is under the finish

The part nobody sees, and the part that decides whether the unit still closes properly in ten years.

High-density engineered panel
The core is high-density engineered wood, not particle board: more stable across a 96-inch upright, and it holds a screw where cheap board strips. Solid Canadian maple and oak are available where a project wants them.
TFL on both faces
Thermally fused laminate on the face and the back, so the inside of a cabinet is finished to the same standard as the outside — and a double-sided panel lets the closet side differ from the room side.
Matching edgebanding
Every exposed edge is banded to match the face. The edge reads as the same décor as the panel rather than as a stripe, which is the detail that separates built joinery from flat-pack.
Shelving rated to 50 lb per foot
Fifty pounds per linear foot is the number that matters when a shelf is carrying folded denim rather than sweaters. Shelves are adjustable, so the spacing follows what you own now and what you own in five years.

Hardware

What you touch every morning

A closet is judged on its hardware long before anyone thinks about the panel it is screwed to. None of this is an upgrade line on the quote — it is what goes in.

  • Blum & Hettich

    Soft-close drawer runners

German-engineered runners rated for 100,000-plus open-and-close cycles, with full extension so the back of the drawer comes out to meet you. They catch and draw themselves shut in the last inch, which is the difference between a drawer you close and a drawer you slam.

  • Soft-close, adjustable

    European concealed hinges

Nothing visible from the outside of a closed door, and adjustable in three planes after installation — so a door that shifts as a house settles gets brought back into line with a screwdriver instead of a service call.

  • Rated to 200+ lb

    Hanging rods

Commercial-grade rod on end supports rather than a wire rail on a clip. A full run of winter coats is heavier than people expect, and a sagging rod is the most common failure in a builder-grade closet.

  • Matte black or brushed silver

    Handles & pulls

Bar pulls, edge pulls or a routed lip where you would rather see nothing at all. Chosen against the finish at the consultation, because a handle that looks right on a pale oak disappears on a charcoal front.

  • Shelf and rail

    Integrated LED lighting

Run into shelves and hanging sections rather than stuck on afterwards, and wired so the light falls on the clothes instead of into your eyes. A lit shoe wall or a lit island is the one upgrade nobody regrets.

  • Fitted, not added

    Accessories

Valet rods, wire baskets, jewellery trays, belt and tie racks, pull-out mirrors and hampers — each one drawn into the elevation so it has a home, rather than bought later and wedged in.

Questions about materials

The ones that come up while the sample box is open. See all questions.

We use only premium-grade materials for durability and beauty: High-density engineered wood (more stable and durable than particle board), Scratch-resistant melamine finishes that won't chip or peel, Solid Canadian maple and oak options for luxury systems, German-engineered soft-close drawer slides rated for 100,000+ cycles, Commercial-grade closet rods rated to support 200+ pounds, Eco-friendly water-based finishes with low VOCs, and FSC-certified sustainable wood from responsibly managed forests. All materials are built to last decades. We never use cheap particle board or wire shelving that sags and breaks.

Every Closet Form system includes our seven-year warranty covering the frame, the shelving, the installation and the finishes and hardware on every surface. That includes the soft-close drawer slides, closet rods, mounting systems and every component we supply. If something fails in normal use inside those seven years we repair or replace it at no charge, and because we manufacture in our own GTA shop the part is usually cut here and fitted within days rather than ordered in through a national chain.

Absolutely! We offer a wide range of finishes to complement any decor: Classic white (bright white or soft white), Warm gray (light gray or charcoal), Espresso and dark browns, Natural maple with honey tones, Natural oak with grain patterns, Rich walnut finishes, and Custom color matching available. During your design consultation, bring photos of your bedroom furniture or paint swatches, and we'll select finishes that perfectly complement your existing decor. We want your new closet to look like it was always part of your home.
