A custom kitchen pantry in Toronto typically costs $1,800 to $6,000 installed. The figure follows the size of the opening and what goes into it, not a flat price per pantry: a coat cupboard rebuilt inside is a very different project from a full pantry wall with pull-outs, drawers and closed uppers. This guide shows what sits behind the range so you can tell where your kitchen would land.

Everything here uses the same figures as our custom closet cost guide and our kitchen pantry page.

What is included in the price

  • The in-home design visit. Free, in your kitchen, because a pantry is decided by things a plan does not show: which way the door swings, how far it is from the stove and what you actually buy.
  • A 3D drawing and an itemised price. Every component priced separately, so if the number is over budget we take things out in front of you.
  • Manufacturing in our own GTA shop, cut to the opening we measure.
  • Delivery and installation by our own crew.
  • A seven-year warranty on structure, installation, finishes and hardware.

What moves the price of a pantry

Linear feet of cabinetry

As with a closet, the main driver is how much wall the cabinetry covers and how many levels it is built to. A pantry wall costs more than a cupboard rebuild because there is more of it.

Pull-outs and drawers

Pull-out shelves and basket drawers are the most useful part of a pantry, and the most expensive per foot. They run full-extension and soft-close, so the back of a deep cupboard comes to you. A four-drawer bank on soft-close undermount runners is typically $600 to $1,200 depending on width and front. Where a cupboard is already deep, putting the extra depth on runners is better than building shallower shelves.

Doors and finish

An open pantry with no doors is the least expensive way to build it. Doors in shaker or flat slab, in over fifty finishes, add cost across the whole run, because every opening gets one. In an open-plan kitchen the doors are usually worth it, because the pantry is on show. Our materials and hardware page shows the finishes.

Lighting

A pantry is the one cupboard where you stand in your own light, so integrated LED under the shelves matters. LED lighting is typically $200 to $600 for a closet-sized run, depending on the length and whether it is switched or sensor-triggered.

Shelf depth, which costs nothing

The measurement that decides whether a pantry works is depth: fourteen to sixteen inches for most shelves, so the whole shelf stays visible from the door. Deeper shelves hold less in practice, because the back becomes a place things are forgotten. It costs nothing to plan for, and it is the first thing we check.

Where a Toronto pantry usually goes

  • A coat cupboard beside the kitchen, with the doors kept and the inside rebuilt. It is the most common pantry we build and the least expensive real one.
  • A reach-in closet with the doors off, which becomes a full open pantry wall.
  • The space under a staircase, awkward and raked at the top but deep at the back, where pull-outs make it usable.

If you are also planning other storage, see our guide to pantry organization ideas, and our walk-in closet cost guide for how the same pricing works for closets.

How to compare pantry quotes

  • Ask for the linear feet and the number of pull-outs and drawers. Two quotes for “a pantry” are not comparable. Two quotes for the same run with six pull-outs are.
  • Check what the price includes. Design, manufacture, delivery, installation and warranty should all be inside the figure.
  • Ask what the runners are. Full-extension and soft-close are worth having on a cupboard you open with one hand.
  • Ask about the depth of the shelves. Deeper is not better, and a company that does not ask is not planning around what you store.

Fourteen to sixteen inches for most of them, which takes a cereal box and a couple of rows of tins while leaving the whole shelf visible from the door. Where an opening is deeper, we put that depth on pull-outs.

Where a cupboard is deep, yes. Full-extension pull-outs bring the back of the shelf to you, so nothing is lost behind the door frame, and soft-close runners make a cupboard you open with one hand easier to use.

Yes. A coat cupboard beside the kitchen, a reach-in closet, or the space under a staircase can all become a pantry, and we measure the opening so the shelving is made to fit.

Yes. The price covers design, manufacturing, delivery and installation, and structure, installation, finishes and hardware carry a seven-year warranty.
