They are an established national brand selling through local franchises. We are one GTA shop that designs, builds and installs its own work. Here is the difference, honestly.
The difference
Two businesses, built differently
Closets by Design is one of the two largest names in this category in North America, and they have been at it for decades. If you are reading this you have probably already had a quote from them, or are about to. This page is not here to tell you they are bad at their job — plenty of people are happy with the closet they got.
It is here because the two businesses are structured differently, and the difference is not obvious from either website. Closets by Design sells through market-by-market franchises. In Ontario that means the branch quoting you is a separately owned business trading under a national brand — which is visible even in how the websites are built, with each market on its own subdomain rather than on the corporate site.
Closet Form is one company. The designer who measures your room, the shop that cuts the panels and the crew that installs them are the same business, in the GTA. That is not automatically better — a franchise brings scale, a showroom and a marketing budget that an independent cannot match — but it changes who is accountable when something needs fixing, and it removes the franchise fee from what you are paying for.

Nine questions to ask any closet company
Our answers are in the middle column. The right-hand column is what to ask Closets by Design — and anyone else you are quoting. We have not filled in an answer on their behalf, because we do not know it and neither should you until you have asked.

The other side
When Closets by Design is the better choice
A comparison page that cannot name a single case where the other company wins is an advertisement. These are real.
- They have showrooms you can walk into and touch the finishes, which matters if you do not want to choose from samples on your kitchen table.
- They are a known name with a long trading history, and for some people that is worth paying for on a five-figure purchase.
- They run frequent promotional pricing and financing offers, which an independent shop generally does not.
- Their scale means they can absorb a difficult job or an unusual schedule in a way a smaller company sometimes cannot.

How to read a closet company's reviews
Including ours. If you are checking reviews before spending five figures, these are the four things worth looking at.
- Read the installation reviews, not the sales ones
- Almost every closet company reviews well on the design visit — it is a pleasant hour with someone drawing your room. The reviews that predict your experience are the ones written weeks later, about the install: whether the crew turned up when they said, whether the unit fitted, whether anything was left unfinished.
- Look for what happened when something went wrong
- No company installs thousands of closets without a damaged panel or a missed measurement. A five-star average tells you less than one detailed three-star review describing how the company responded. That is the only real evidence of what your warranty is worth.
- Check the dates and the pattern
- Twenty reviews in one week and nothing for a year is a campaign, not a record. A steady handful every month over several years is a business doing consistent work.
- Match the review to your job
- A glowing review of a $2,000 reach-in tells you little about a $15,000 dressing room, and the reverse is just as true. Look for the reviews describing the job you are about to commission.

Closets by Design vs Closet Form, answered
Yes — it operates as a franchise network, with individual markets run by separately owned businesses trading under the national brand. That is why each market has its own website. It is worth knowing simply because it tells you who holds your contract and who you would be dealing with about a warranty claim later.
We are independent and locally owned, and we manufacture in our own GTA shop rather than ordering units in. One company designs, builds and installs, and handles the warranty directly. There are no franchise fees built into the price.
We cannot tell you that, because we do not know what you have been quoted and we will not guess at another company's pricing. What we can do is publish ours: reach-ins from $1,200, walk-ins from $2,500, built-in wardrobes from $3,000, every figure including design, manufacturing, delivery and installation. Compare it with what you have in writing.
Yes, always, and we would say that even if you were not reading this on our website. Get two or three, ask all of them the nine questions above, and put the answers side by side. A company confident in its work will not mind being asked.
